Matt Snyder and Chris Vargas tied for the best score on the day at 75 (+5) as the Cal Lutheran golf team defeated Carroll College (MT) 306-330 in a dual match at the Sunset Hills Golf Course on Tuesday. The Kingsmen finished 22 strokes above par, their best round as a team this season.
The Cal Lutheran golf team finished seventh place in the conference team competition for the third time this season on Sunday at Los Serranos Country Club. Josh Knight recorded the low Kingsmen score for the second straight round with a 79 (+7) and was the lone CLU player to shoot under 80 for the round.
In its second SCIAC round of the season the Cal Lutheran golf team finished as the seventh place conference team at the Goose Creek Golf Course on Thursday afternoon. Josh Knight was CLU's top golfer as he finished in a tie for 17th with a 78 (+6).
A pair of freshmen and a sophomore posted the top scores for the Cal Lutheran golf team that took seventh at the first SCIAC round in La Verne on Thursday. Cody Price, Chad Kimmelshue and Tyler Straeter all tied for 21st place at 10 strokes over par to pace the Kingsmen at the par-71 Sierra La Verne Country Club.
In 2010 the Cal Lutheran golf team returns eight players from a season ago and welcomes five new faces a squad that finished in fifth place in the SCIAC last year. The Kingsmen garnered a national ranking of 23rd in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches Preseason Poll released in November 2009.
The Cal Lutheran women's tennis team will travel to Occidental College on Saturday morning initiating the 2010 spring sports schedule. The CLU baseball and softball teams will provide the first home spring contests with both hosting Sunday doubleheaders against La Sierra at 11 a.m. and Noon, respectively.
Before hitting the links in 2010 the Cal Lutheran golf team landed No. 23 on the Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches Preseason Poll. The Kingsmen will their schedule with a conference competition at Sierra La Verne on February 18.
Junior Josh Knight shot a 69 and 74 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, as the Cal Lutheran men's golf finished in sixth out of 16 at the Oglethorpe Fall In at the Royal Lakes Golf Course in Georgia. The Kingsmen shot 295 as a team on Monday and 301 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 596.
