Senior earns conference honors

Jimmy Jauregui earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors after going 7-for-11 at the plate and helping CLU to a series sweep over Whittier.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Announced on Monday afternoon by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Jimmy Jauregui of the Cal Lutheran baseball team was named Athlete of the Week based on his performance during the week of Apr. 3-9.

Jauregui has been red hot from the plate and hit .636 (7-for-11) with four RBIs and three runs to help the No. 13 Cal Lutheran baseball team sweep Whittier over the weekend. The senior third basemen went 3-for-4 in the first two games of the series with three doubles and went 1-for-3 with the game-winning RBI single in the series finale. CLU has won 14 in a row.

Last week, Courtney Sooy (Mar. 27 – Apr. 2) from the Cal Lutheran softball team was honored while Chloe Barnes (Mar. 20-26)from the Cal Lutheran women’s golf team was honored the week prior. Also honored this spring has been Gabe Gunter (Mar. 13-19) from the Kingsmen basesball team, Regals water polo players Victoria Rose Meek (Mar. 6-12) and Bailey Meyer (Feb. 20-26) along with track and field student-athlete Alexa Barnes (Feb. 27 – Mar. 5). In the winter, Haley Hodgson (Jan. 16-22 and Jan. 2-8) from the Regals basketball team was a two-time selection while Kyle Ferreira (Jan. 9-15) was a recent selection from the Cal Lutheran men’s basketball team. Hodgson’s teammate Sofia Cruz (Dec. 12-18) and Kingsmen basketball player Austin Cole (Dec. 12-18) were also honored along with Regals basketball player Janelle Porter (Nov. 14-20) and Kingsmen swimmer Jonah Hobbs (Nov. 14-20). In the fall, Hope Stewart (Oct. 17-23 and Sept. 5-11) and Ryley Settles  (Sept. 26 – Oct. 3 and Sept. 5-11) were two time-honorees for the Regals volleyball and soccer teams, respectively. For the Kingsmen, football players Aaron Lacombe (Oct. 10-16) and Adam Friederichsen (Sept. 26 – Oct. 3) have been honored as well as water polo player Chris Gardhouse (Sept. 12-18).

Cal Lutheran (21-6, 13-5 SCIAC) takes a break from SCIAC competition this week with a trip to the Pacific Northwest for games against Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
