WHITTIER, Calif. – In a non-conference game against a conference opponent, the Cal Lutheran baseball team traveled to Whittier on Tuesday afternoon and edged the Poets 5-4 at Memorial Field.

After the Poets put two on the scoreboard in the first inning, the Kingsmen answered back with two runs to tie the game in the third. With the bases loaded, Gabe Gunter was hit by a pitch to bring home Austin Kay, who singled earlier in the frame. Weston Clark capped off the scoring in the inning with sac fly to left field.

CLU took a 4-2 lead in the fourth behind RBI singles from Max Weinstein and Gunter. After Whittier tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Bradley Fullerton doubled and scored on an error for the go-ahead, and ultimately, the game winning run.

Kay led the Kingsmen at the plate, going 3-for-5, while Gunter and Fullerton tallied two hits apiece. Weinstein, Clark and Sinjin Todd provided the other CLU hits on the day.

In a pitch-by-committee game, Marshall Pautsch, Troy Frazier and Jaden Stromire threw two innings each while Trey Saito, Miguel Salud and Nate Wehner all tossed one. Stromire earned his first collegiate win and Wehner notched his third save.

Cal Lutheran (8-6) returns to the diamond for a doubleheader against Berry (Ga.) this Friday, Mar. 17 with the first game slated for 11:00 a.m. at Ullman Stadium.
