THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A Friday afternoon Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) baseball showdown between Cal Lutheran and Redlands belonged to the visiting Bulldogs in a lopsided 7-2 outcome at Ullman Stadium.

The teams entered the game tied in the league standings, but the visiting Redlands squad controlled the pace of play today, outhitting CLU 12-4, though CLU played flawless defense.

Redlands put up five runs in the first two innings and despite the Kingsmen scoring the next two, aided by a UR error and on a solo homerun by Jimmy Jauregui in the bottom of the third and fourth, respectively, to cut the deficit to 5-2, the Bulldogs responded with two more in the top of the fifth on a double, single and two walks.

A potential rally in the bottom of the seventh saw Sinjin Todd and Cheynne Giles work back-to-back walks, which forced a quick visit to the mound, but a pop-up and groundout ended the threat and left two men on for the Violet and Gold.

After a 1-2-3 top of the ninth from Troy Frazier on a ground ball and two shallow fly balls, the Kingsmen stepped back up to the plate and made a little noise, but to no avail. A leadoff, pinch-hit single from Brad Fullerton was followed by a walk from Matt Sciumbato, but that was all the Kingsmen would get.

Trey Saito (2-1) was handed his first loss of the season, lasting just 4.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and seven runs with one strike out. Fraizertook the ball and went 4.2 innings, scattering just two hits while striking out three.

Redlands (8-8, 4-3 SCIAC) looked to Christian Conci for a 4-for-5 day at the plate with two runs and an RBI while Rainer Aguilar, Will Hall and Mitch Samson provided two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Cal Lutheran (6-5, 3-4) travels to Redlands tomorrow for a pair, beginning at 11:00 a.m. to wrap up the season series.
