Alex Nichols

Tennis

The men’s tennis season opened with a pair of SCIAC matches and transfer Alex Nichols wasted no time making a name for himself at CLU. The junior teamed up with Ray Worley at No. 1 doubles and was part of 8-2 and 8-3 victories over Chapman and Caltech, respectively. Nichols won his No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1, at home against CU in the morning and clinched the match for the Kingsmen. Later in the day Nichols went on to earn a 6-1, 6-0 decision at Caltech.

Starla Wright

Basketball

SCIAC Athlete of the Week

Starla Wright continues to lead the first-place Regals basketball team. In a win over Whittier on Thursday the senior recorded a monster 17-point, 17-rebound double-double by shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and going 8-for-9 at the charity stripe. Additionally, she recorded a pair of assists, a block and a steal. In a hard fought 53-49 win on the road at Occidental she shared the team-lead with 13 points, adding a game-high eight rebounds with a pair of steals, a block and an assist. Wright was 9-for-12 at the line and was responsible for breaking a 47-47 tie with 1:59 remaining in regulation with a free-throw. She would hit two more at the 1:22 mark as CLU held on for the win and the season sweep of the Tigers.
